Puppy Update Week Four

Now the work really starts - the puppies are now very keen on human companionship and wag their tails when you chat with them, or if an arm or whole human goes in their pen.  As the weather has suddenly got very warm I took the opportunity to introduce them to grass, and they have ventured outside into the garden pen.

They are really interacting with each other. and playing with toys which vary from classic puppy toys (ball on a rope) to knotted old socks and plastic bottles!

This week we took them outside for photo shoot, but the  camera was playing up so they are a little over exposed, and some of the puppies were less cooperative that others!  Viisi & Kuusi were happy to show off, the others having been rudely awakened only wanted to lie down.

Three Week Update

The development from two to three weeks never ceases to amaze me, the pups are now really moving about  albeit a tough unsteady on their legs.  They are now well into soft food either Royal Canin mousse or soaked RC Starter, and you will see from their weight gains that their ability to eat and supplement what they get from mum is paying off dividends!

Now they bark, play and try and get mum to regurgitate dinner!  As a breed that shows wild dog instincts - whilst the pups paw and nuzzle their mum's mouths - I have yet to see a Finnish Lapphund bitch regurgitate such greedy self survival queens that they are (our pyreneans did it!).

The colours are developing and Kuusi is easy to spot, the four wolfies vary - but so far none are as pale as dad, Matkamies at the same age, more like grandpa Hapmi. Yksi & Neljä more like mum at this age.

Two weeks already

This week has seen the pups open their eyes, such a big occasion, Phillip sent me a text whilst I was at work to say that some were peeping at him.  Now they all have eyes wide open and this heralds the start of interaction.  They have already started to "play" with each other, which involves gumming each other, and falling over in the process.  They have even tried out the Royal Canin Mousse, which they love, though think they wear more of it than actually eat - but Penikka then has an incentive to get them spotless again!

After a good meal at the milk bar they settle down for a well earned snooze so I cheekily rearranged them to get the above shot.
